Frequently asked questions What will it feel like? The hypnosis experience is different for everyone. People generally find it very relaxing. Some also experience temporary feelings of lightness, heaviness, or tingling. Is it safe? Yes. No-one can be hypnotised against their will and even when in trance people can still reject any of the suggestions given if they are not appropriate. Will I reveal personal secrets whilst in Hypnosis? No. Hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis, you are in full control of all you say and do. Will I lose consciousness whilst in Hypnosis? During Hypnotherapy, the client is always fully aware and in control of everything that happens. It’s like daydreaming, so even if the therapist left the room and never returned you would come round by yourself within a few minutes, people naturally do this. Are there any dangers? None. You will be in a safe environment and will simply be relaxed. Can anyone be hypnotised? Most people can go into at least a light trance, this is sufficient for most hypnotherapeutic goals. Therefore, everyone can benefit from Hypnotherapy to some extent. Can I get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis? No, you can come out of hypnosis at any time. Will I remember what happened during Hypnosis? You will remember some things but not all, but this is the way the memory normally works. for example, when you listen to a speech you don’t remember everything that has been said but you will recall the majority of it. How many sessions will it take? The number of sessions required varies but overall hypnotherapy is a relatively short term therapy and my goal is to work with you for the shortest time necessary for you to change or to achieve your goal. Please see what it helps for an approximation. How do I book an initial consultation for hypnotherapy? Call me on 07967122938 and if the answerphone comes on then please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I am able. If you would like to contact me for a free initial chat about how hypnotherapy can help you or ask any questions, or if you would like to know whether your problem or issue can be dealt with by hypnotherapy, please do give me a call and I’ll be happy to help. How long does each hypnotherapy session last? Sessions last 50 minutes and include a complimentary relaxation CD; except for smoking cessation that requires between 90 mins and 2 hours. Initial Consultation and Assessment No treatment takes place during the initial consultation but this is a very important session giving you information that can be extremely helpful. The initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I would hope to get an understanding of why you are seeking therapy, what you feel you need from the process and what you would like to get out of it. I will then explain my own unique way of how the brain works that incorporates my specialist neuroscience knowledge. We will also talk through our agreement which will include the expected number of sessions required, the regular weekly session time (if this is possible, due to being so busy), payment, confidentiality and the cancellation policy. Your Commitment It is important to note that a commitment and determination to make change is required in order to maximize the success of any treatment program. Hypnosis and the accompanying therapy can be enormously powerful but only in combination with this determination. Results may vary depending on the individual and their commitment to the process. Listening to the relaxation CD/MP3 in between clinical sessions is necessary. Arriving Late for an Appointment It is important that you arrive on time for your session. If your session needs to be curtailed due to your late arrival then the session fee remains payable in full. Medical Conditions As with all complementary therapies, you should seek advice from your GP if you feel you have a medical condition. Terms and Conditions By booking any appointment confirms that you have familiarised, read, understand and abide by the terms and conditions. Clients are advised that in booking an appointment they are reserving my time exclusively for their hypnotherapy session. I run a very busy practice and often have a waiting list. All cancellations should be made verbally via telephone (fine if it goes through to voicemail); regrettably, email or text messages cannot be accepted. I ask that you give 72 working hours notice for cancellation or change of appointments. (this does not include the hours of Saturday and Sunday). 5 pm & 6 pm sessions or stop smoking appointments are premium time that all require 1 full working weeks notice to cancel or reschedule. The same applies to all block bookings. In the event of a client failing to show or failure to follow clinic protocols, there will be no refund given and the session will not be rescheduled. Failure to give appropriate notice and wasting valuable clinical time will mean that you will be invoiced the full amount to cover costs of room hire, administration fees, preparation time for the session and the inconvenience and possibility you have denied someone else the opportunity of having therapy. In such instances, you will lose priority booking and be placed on the bottom of the waiting list for subsequent treatment and this can vary between 6 and 18 weeks, and sometimes more. Where there is more than one occurrence where you have wasted clinical time, then I will terminate your sessions and remove you from my client base. I will accept 48 hours (not 24 hours) if an illness is responsible and 50% of the fee will be due however only if you re-book the session at the time and pay the deposit to secure the time in the diary. Failure to do this will incur the full fee of £85 and your treatment suspended. Employers changes to working patterns, childcare issues, transport issues or others illness cannot be accommodated with short notice. Same day, forgotten or missed appointments will be charged in full. Venue mistakes or losing paperwork cannot be accepted as valid reasons. Unfortunately, I cannot accept conflicting appointments as a valid reason to cancel or reschedule without 72 working hours notice. Block Bookings and deposits are non-refundable. They are in place to protect against a small percentage of people not showing for their appointments. No refunds will be given in any circumstance. *50% non-refundable Deposit Required For Smoking Cessation Session These terms and your cancellation rights will be supplied fully by text or email before your appointment is booked and paid for and also supplied to you in writing before therapy begins. The therapy agreement must be signed, dated and held on your file before any treatment begins. Details of any rescheduling or cancellations will be held on your record and may affect your ability to book further appointments. Any misinterpretation or distortion of the therapy agreement will result in immediate suspension or cessation of treatment. *I operate a strict tier booking, advance payment only option for Tuesdays and Thursdays at The Arches Therapy Rooms in BS6.
